Misfits: Another British show that is truly Unique

Published October 31, 2012 by stephie794

I had heard a few things about this show before but didn’t think it would be my cup of tea as 5 teenagers sentenced to community service didn’t sound like very likable people. I read a blog entry by a Tv expert friend of mine named Henry Otero and was intrigued. then I looked it up on IMDB and saw a unusually high rating on IMDB of 8.6. It was described as a black comedy that is truly addictive with the characters growing more and more on you each episode. The first episode I thought in first ten minutes what a bunch of wankers. Nathan’s ability to find humour in any situation and his vulnerability when his mom chooses her boyfriend over him are truly endearing and you grow to love him fast. Once you can understand Kelly’s accent you like her as well. Simon is a misunderstood loner but is the brains of the operation. Ruby and Curtis are well drawn and have a story arc all their own. Curtis reminds me of Lance Armstrong. I blew through 3 episodes right away and would have kept going if I wasn’t falling asleep at 1 am. I can figure out most shows with a mystery but this one so far is truly unpredictable .The seasons only have 6 or 7 episodes each and are on Netflix so it’s convenient! Let me know what you think P.s I have been told that season 2 is even better.

Life is too Short

Published October 29, 2012 by stephie794

I was reminded how short life is tonight when I got a call about an friend of mine , in fact my first love, from a mutual friend saying that  he had passed away last Wednesday. I was shocked as he was in perfect health last time I spoke to him online, but that was 5 years ago.  He was a great looking guy with a smile that lit up the room and was very successful career- wise, but he was slightly misogynistic and very narcissistic. I was in love with him for 4 years but never entertained the idea of living with him as he never let anyone too close him. He was sarcastic and very stingy with compliments  but then he could blow your mind with his philanthropy  ( donated to many charities) and his love of kids and animals.

He had 7 (!) German Shepherds and  they were all purebred winners at obedience shows. He helped me pick out my first dog. Even more than Dan, the purebred Pekingese I called Rudy was the love of my life. I would never have known how much I liked dogs if it wasn’t for Dan. My sister couldn’t stand Dan  but quickly became obsessed with pekes and bought her own. My Mom and I have  Leo for last 5 years, we went to an Ottawa Breeder to get one that looked just like Rudy.

We were still texting and FB friends until 2 years ago when he said  something offensive and I just ignored him. When I deactivated my FB account didn’t add him back.  He was only 48 but he did  live life to the fullest. Makes me realize how right the quote is  Seize the Day  Gather your Rosebuds while you may !  I will be more forgiving of friend’s imperfections in the future and will strive for unconditional love like our canine friends give everyday !  Rest in Peace Dan 1964-2012

Haven: Where Everyday is Hallowe’en

Haven 3×6

I have been watching Haven since its very first episode two years ago and that took some effort as I don’t even get the SyFy channel here I only have basic cable ! I have always been a huge Stephen King fan and when I heard that there would be a show based on his novella the Colorado Kid , I was intrigued.   I checked out my favorite streaming site http://www.watchseries-online.eu/ and was hooked immediately. I loved the love triangle between  actress Emily Rose and her co-stars  Duke and Nathan. I love the idea of a town in Maine with troubled citizens that cause supernatural happenings. It is a very original concept and you can’t miss an episode or you will be lost. I was late to watching Dr Who and Fringe so this show claims the distinction of being only sci-fi show I have watched from the beginning!   I am never a fan of shows that are all dark and have no witty dialogue  but Duke Crocker is the comic relief to offset the other 2 leads  intensity.  An underrated show that is nevertheless beloved by critics .  Let me know what you think !
